Why We Love Family Photography
Family is all about a journey of connection, love and adventure, and every family has a story to tell. That’s what a good, professional photographer does – we capture the journey of your life, and the little details that make you a unique family, to help tell your story.
Something happens to us when we see pictures of our families. We well up with pride and want to show people every shot that’s been captured. And then while we admire the photos on our walls, we travel back in time and see and feel details long forgotten. We’re reminded of what matters and how time moves too quickly, and to treasure the moments we have today.
Personally, I love capturing those tender moments between a family, and as a photographer, my soul purpose is to focus on creating raw and organic images which tell your true story. At times, I like to think of photographers as storytellers – we get the privilege of retelling some of the sweetest memories between family members. It could be between a father and his daughter as he hoists her up onto his shoulders, or secret whisperings between siblings before they start chasing mum.
It’s the beauty of your family and the essence of your story that makes amazing photographs you would want to share with the world. Our aim, as professionals, is to capture an honest story. Perhaps your families puppy has decided it’s more fun to follow the fleeting movements of an insect. But it’s all okay because we can laugh at the dog’s short attention span, a little chaos in the session goes a long way to having portraits that are emotive and most of all beautifully truthful.
For me, making moments happen is a part of me connecting with you and your loved ones. Connection is one of the most important aspects that I consider when photographing families, because in the end it becomes about the emotions we feel when we look at an image. Through your family, I capture the reflection of love, warmth, joy and happiness between your loved ones, and do so in a way that helps keep that moment alive for anyone who sees that photograph. How can you not feel a certain way when you see the raw emotion, the organic connection, amongst a loving family in a beautiful portrait?
A day dedicated to spending quality time with your family, where nothing else in the world matters, is such an honour and privilege for me. I love meeting and having fun with everyone in the family; getting to know each individual and what their quirks, habits, and personalities are like. I see it this way: we have such a limited time in this life. Every second, every minute, and every day counts, and capturing your family in moments that make you the happiest is something you deserve.
